Sticker Charts

Have I mentioned that we're working on potty-training Asher?  Our latest strategy is continuous sticker charts.  It goes like this:  I divide a piece of construction paper into squares.  Every time Asher uses the toilet successfully and his underwear is clean at the time, he puts a sticker in a square.  When all of the squares on the paper are full he gets a reward and we make a new chart.  I made a sticker chart for Asher sometime in early October.  He filled it up on Tuesday night.  It had 30 squares on it.

So, on Wednesday, we went out for ice cream.  And, as unimpressive as it may seem for a few-months-short-of-four-year-old to successfully use the toilet thirty times in two and a half months, he was ridiculously proud of himself.  So proud that he brought the chart with him to the store and showed it to all of the people working there so that they could see how responsible he had been.  (Also, he would like all of you to know that the name of the restaurant was Michael's Frozen Custard and that he filled up all of the squares!!!)

And I've been thinking ever since about accomplishments and how maybe some of them really are bigger than they might seem.

And I made Asher a new chart.  When he fills is up, we are going out for burritos.  It has fifty-six squares.  I'll let you know when it's full.

I think it gets easier the second time around (maybe?), Tommy has been pooping successfully in the toilet the last couple days. I attribute it to his obsession with all things Eden, his latest fancy being her ability to sit on the toilet and "poo-poo". He wants to be just like her, including using the bathroom (which is sooooo nice for me!!). Eden wore a pull-up to bed for so long I honestly started losing hope that she would ever NOT wear one, well tonight she sleeps pull-up less, and I can't remember the last time she wore one. Takes time, won't last forever. The sticker chart is brilliant, especially the added squares part. Here's to burritos!
