Lean Burrito

Asher just had his 9 month checkup.  9 month checkups are glorious for one big reason:  there are no shots involved. This is not to say that I am not grateful for the technology of immunizations.  I think it is fantastic that I don't have to worry much about my baby getting the measles, or small pox, or the myriad of other diseases that either he has received immunizations for, or have been more or less eradicated in this country thanks to others being immunized in the past.  It is not so fantastic to watch your baby scream as people poke him with needles (I am also grateful for pediatric nurses.  How awful would it be to have to be the person poking babies with needles?), and then to worry for the next couple of days that he will have some kind of reaction.
However, none of this is to the point.  I am not here to tell you what didn't happen at Asher's checkup, but what did.  And what did happen, was that Asher was weighed and measured.  Turns out that my little string bean is in the 81st percentile for height, but in only the 3rd for weight.  Bah!  Members of the jury, I assert that this is not my fault.  I spend a good chunk of my day either feeding Asher or monitoring him while he feeds himself to make sure that he doesn't choke.  Furthermore, I would like to present exhibit A:
and exhibit B:
Obviously, I contributed some nice chunky baby genes.  Hugh, on the other hand.... well, you can judge for yourselves.  In the meantime, I'm going to go feed the Burrito something really fattening.

hahaaaaa :)

love the picture of the chunkster! who knew you'd grow up to be such a skinny minnie! i love chunky babies, but don't think it'll happen with the combination of Spackman genes. I am glad however that Asher's skinniness doesn't ruin your ped appts. i always dread mine because i know the doctor is just going to lecture me on why i'm not giving eden more whole milk (even though she refuses to drink it!). anyways, asher is a cutie.

He definitely doesn't look underweight. Don't worry about it--doctors are overrated anyhow. :)

Don't worry about not knowing about the paper--I was kind of tight-lipped about it. It was one of those end-of-semester I-just-can't-handle-one-more-paper-right-now-and-keep-my-sanity things. So, right before I left, I took an incomplete in one of my classes and just had the paper left to do for it. That's all. :D

You changed the Hugh baby picture...

My mom thought that the other Hugh picture was too old, so I made Hugh get the CD of all the old family pictures out so that I could find a younger one.

Wow! Look at those cheeks! I mean YOURS. We also had a lean child, the kind who fell off the growth chart, who the doctors said was "failing to thrive". He had to do bone-age tests, x-rays, blood tests, etc. Turns out he was skinny, but fine. I knew it all along.

I think Asher laughs off all the calories in his food:)
