Even as I grew older, and could understand the inconvenience of needing an external device in order to see clearly, I still felt a little jealousy for the glasses-wearers of the world. If you wear glasses, you probably think that I'm a weirdo, but I have spoken to others who are without them and they have confessed to me that they, too, are sometimes a little envious. There's just something about glasses. The right spectacles can make you look sophisticated, or stylish, or cool... or even like Harry Potter.

Plus, they frame your eyes so nicely-- a plus for somebody like me whose eyebrows are basically invisible.
Unfortunately for me, I had very little chance of needing glasses anytime in the foreseeable future. When I go to get my eyes checked, the nurses testing me say things like, "You can read that?!?" (Yes, I realize that you are all feeling immense amounts of pity for me right now.) So, by the time I actually need to get glasses, they'll probably be framing more wrinkles than anything else.
Luckily, in China, where Hugh and I were privileged to spend our Autumn months last year, they sell fake everything for really cheap. So, at a shop where they were selling knock-off Vogue and Calvin Klein glasses frames with plastic nothing lenses in them, I bought myself these:
So now I can be cool like everybody else. (And, yes, that's my shower curtain. Now I bet you're jealous. :) )
P.S. Hugh would like everybody to know that he spent half an hour schmoozing the vendors so that I could get my favorite glasses for a decent price. Here is a picture of him:
Or, well, close enough.

When I was a kid, I used to unbend paper clips and put them in my mouth to pretend I had braces. Then I had braces. Twice.
I do understand the whole glasses thing. When I got glasses, I felt so cool. Now I despise wearing glasses and only wear contacts. It could be because my glasses are really old and only have one leg, so they fall off my nose all the time.
I still think men in glasses are very attractive. My husband got a pair of glasses a while back, but he never ever wears them. Too bad.
I'm just jealous that you match your shower curtain. You always do cool stuff like coordinate with the background in your pictures. Your glasses are just an extension of that. :D P.S. I like your hair in the picture too!
the fact that your glasses have fake lenses cancels out the coolness. sorry kristi, even your fake glasses don't make you as cool as "real" glass wearers---even if they are SUPER cute :)
love the post, i've actually wondered what i would look like in glasses, but like you i've been blessed with perfect 20/20 vision, so i do the next best thing and play around with sunglasses. right now i'm on a bug look, you know the big huge shades. love em.
LOL-I used to unbend paper clips and tell kids at school my dad (who is a dentist) made me a retainer the night before.
I also think glasses look great on others however I have never tried on a pair that looked good on me so am grateful to not need them. Yet.
A "little amount" is about one bite every day. lol. but bingeing every once in a while isn't so bad...at least not in my head when I do it. :)
It's funny because I was always jealous of glass wearers, too. The irony is that I was actually supposed to wear glasses. I just always forgot... Even now, when I have my way awesom dyslexia glasses (peach tinted lenses), I still forget to wear them most of the time... I really don't get it.
