This weekend, Hugh took me on another surprise date. I didn't know anything about where we were going or what we were doing, but Hugh said that I should dress up a little. I asked if I could wear dress pants or khakis, or if this was a skirt or dress kind of thing. He said that dress pants or khakis would be fine, so I put on some black pants, an orange blouse, and my Halloween bracelet. I felt so festive. :) We then proceeded to the apartment of our friends Anthony and Ben where we were having dinner before going to the main event. As we approached their door, Hugh said that he hoped we weren't overdressed. These fears were assuaged when we entered to find Anthony, Ben and all of their roommates dressed in suits and all of their dates in dresses with flowers and sparkly things in their hair. I began to second-guess Hugh's judgement of what was appropriate attire for this mystery event. After we ate, I asked Ben if I ought to be wearing something else and he informed me that the event was semi-formal. ha, ha, ha.
Luckily, 1. we were ahead of schedule and I had time to go home and change, 2. I happened to have an appropriate dress in my closet because my mom had bought me one for Easter (not that it fit me for Easter... hahaha), and 3. I had shaved my legs.

So, more suitably arrayed, we set out once again--to, it turns out, the BYU Homecoming dance on the Heber Creeper (a train which, in case the moniker didn't tip you off, goes really slowly). To add to the excitement, it was a murder mystery dance. Despite the lack of speed with which the Heber Creeper travels, the movement did make dancing interesting, but we danced like crazy people anyway... we just almost fell over a lot. I do have to say that dance music has gone downhill a little since I was in high school... which is the last time that I went to a dance. (U2, where have you gone?) Oh well. I guess I had to start feeling that way sometime or I would never get to grumble about how my teenage kids are listening to noxious garbage. Nevertheless, we had a fantastic time, and I even guessed who the murderer was. :)
P.S. Hugh is a fabulous dancer.
P.P.S. He can do a great lizard impression.
